The weather is getting hotter and hotter, it is very important to keep the CPAP mask clean and hygienic. The editor advises everyone: clean the pipeline and mask once a day, and the headgear once a week. It only takes 5 minutes to clean the mask every day, and it takes only 4 steps to clean the mask. Let's get together!

1. Clean the silicone pad

The place where the mask touches the skin is basically made of silica gel. The silica gel is breathable but impermeable. After prolonged contact with the skin, it will absorb the oil in the skin, and the white silica gel will gradually turn yellow. Not only will it emit an unpleasant smell, but it will also produce a lot of bacteria.

Therefore, the mask should be cleaned every 2-3 days on weekdays. Disassemble the various parts of the mask, untie the hose, mix an appropriate amount of special cleaning agent for the mask with warm water, and use the CPAP mask cleaning brush to thoroughly clean the inside.

I would like to remind everyone here that to clean the mask, use a neutral detergent that specifically cleans the mask, and never use 84 and other acid and alkaline cleaning solutions. These cleaning fluids will cause damage to the mask, and some chemicals will be adsorbed in the pores of the silica gel. When the mask is used, it will be slowly released and finally inhaled by the lungs. It is also not recommended to use alcohol to wipe the silicone area. Alcohol is very irritating. Although it has a bactericidal effect, it cannot clean the mask well and prevent the growth of bacteria. It should not be exposed to the sun. Ultraviolet rays will accelerate the aging of the mask silica gel, becoming fragile and reducing its service life.

2. Clean the pipeline

The pipeline will not come into contact with the patient's exhalation, so cleaning is relatively simple. Generally speaking, you only need to rinse with clean water, pour a small amount of detergent on the mask, use the CPAP mask brush to clean the inside of the pipeline, and then pour out all the water in the pipeline, hang it to dry. If it is a heating pipe, it cannot be cleaned in water!

3. Cleaning the headband and frame

Use a special cleaner for the face mask to clean the headband and frame. After washing, let it dry naturally, or use a towel to wipe off the moisture.

4. The ventilator filter cotton should be replaced in time. Normally, it needs to be replaced if it is yellow or slightly black.

After cleaning the mask tube, if possible, you can use the household CPAP disinfector to perform simple ozone disinfection on the mask and tube. Wipe the casing of the ventilator with a cloth dampened with water or with a neutral detergent. It is not recommended to wipe any parts with alcohol. If you must use it, be sure to twist the alcohol cotton ball dry before use to prevent the alcohol from penetrating the inside of the ventilator. At the same time, it is not recommended to use any foam type cleaning liquid, because the chemical residues will be absorbed by your lungs.
